Economic Return:
Carbon sequestration provides income through the sale of credits earned by replanting or managing forests on private land with private investment. Credits are used to offset emissions of gasses that affect global climate from projects that choose to reduce the serious environmental impacts of their operations.
Background Information:
Companies are increasingly turning to carbon sequestration through reforestation as a cost-effective strategy in an increasing global effort to reduce the harmful effects of carbon dioxide release into the atmosphere. In particular, healthy growing forests are highly effective means of naturally removing carbon and sequestering it in forest biomass. By planting trees in areas that have been deforested through human action, MMA SLI can generate carbon credits that can be used to offset the greenhouse gas emissions of the purchaser.
Carbon sequestration projects conducted by MMA SLI will:
- Restore natural ecosystems
- Promote sustainable forestry
- Avoid leakage
- Insure additionality
